You don’t have to pay everything at once. Many clients choose to break their fee into monthly or milestone-based payments, often completing their investment by 36 weeks.
2. Sliding Scale Rates
I reserve a portion of my availability for families who need reduced-cost support. If you're experiencing financial hardship or facing systemic barriers to care, let’s talk about sliding scale doula options.
3. HSA/FSA Reimbursement
Did you know you might be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for doula services? Some clients have had success getting full or partial reimbursement.
4. Baby Registry Contributions
Include “birth doula support” on your baby registry or crowd-funding platforms like BeHerVillage. It’s a meaningful gift that friends and family are often eager to support. I also welcome contributions from family and friends in whatever payment methods is convenient for them.
5. Insurance Billing & Reimbursement
This is going to vary a lot from doula to doula and locations. For me, I have had some luck with insurance billing and reimbursement for private insurance options such as Carrot. I always encourage clients to call and talk with their insurance company about coverage for doulas. This is becoming more common. Michigan residents can also get Medicaid doula coverage for approved Medicaid doulas. I am in the process of obtaining Medicaid approval.
